My Home Water Birth

Our Noah decided to arrive exactly 2 weeks early on October 28th; which I found a bit funny considering our son Carter had came 2 weeks late. This pregnancy had been so different and Noah was such a mover I just felt as if he couldn't wait to come out and see the world and boy was I right. 

Contractions had begun early in the morning around 1am as I kept waking up as I was contracting, but didn't think much about it considering I'd been having contractions and just figured they were more braxton hicks contractions, but by mid morning 10am or so I began to think they weren't just braxton hicks contractions and after lunch around 12pm I started to time distance between the contractions and soon realized they were getting closer together. 

By 8 that evening my contractions had reached the point where I was ready to get in the pool. Awe, the warm water felt so good, but then, oh my baby Noah was on his way! 

I did it! I caught Noah all by myself! I couldn't believe I actually did it! I caught him and brought him up to my chest! My sweet Noah born at 8:21pm.

It was a peaceful delivery for Noah and I.

My midwife Gail Uptain and her assistant Jackie Lopez were wonderful as they helped give me the home birth that I desired.

Why Birth Photography?

This describes the birth journey in words. If you've experienced the birth of a child you can probably identify with each of those words. They may conjure visual memories in your mind representing each stage of labor, birth and those first moments meeting your child. You may even have a video or some snapshots or cellphone pictures taken by a busy nurse or an anxious Daddy or Grandparent to mark the day, but most parents walk away from their birth journey and into parenthood without a way to mark the powerful transition they just experienced.

Birth photography transforms the birth journey into more than just a cherished life memory. It creates the story of your child's birth from the tiniest detail to the sheer emotion shared between partners to the moment that baby and parents fall in love at first sight.

There are very few events in life as wonderful as the birth of a new baby. I love photographing births. It's an incredible honor to be there in those first moments . . . . the first breath, the first cry, the first time your baby looks up into your eyes.

If you've ever considered having the birth of your child photographed. DO IT. You won't regret it. This is one of the biggest, defining moments of your life, it makes sense to document it. Renee had been planning a home water birth with her midwife, but things took a turn when her water broke in the late morning on Friday June 5, 2015. Since she was not close enough to her due date and baby Oliver was going to be a premie she headed to the hospital.

This amazing mother gave birth naturally. Playing cards and bouncing on the ball to pass the time away. As baby began to get closer, the contractions began to get stronger. She continued to be strong and breathe through each one, holding on to her supportive husband Mason as she fought through each contraction.

She had an amazing supportive team with her including her husband, mother, midwife, and the CCMH nurse who caught the baby! It's always an awe inspiring moment when baby arrives. Oliver arrived on June 6, 2015 at 12:10 a.m., weighing 5lbs. 3oz., and measuring 19.2".
